What are your goals?
As a personal trainer I will continue to help others feel better about themselves, and to enhance there self-esteem. I want to keep giving back to the fitness community because its been so good to me through the 17 years I have been training. Physique wise I am currently recovering from a bi lateral quadricep tendon rupture doing sumo deadlifts with 560 pounds. Once I get through all the physical therapy and fully heal I intend on getting back onstage and prove to the doctors and to myself that I can still compete!! I love bodybuilding and it will always be in my life to the day i die.
How did you hear about The Performance Network?

My injury

Posted on February 15, 2009 at 16:49 0 Comments

As some of you may know I suffered a Bi Lateral Quadricep Tear. On December 29th I was doing sumo Deadlifts with 560 pounds and on the way up my right quad tendon tore, then all the weight shifted to the left side and the left Quad tore. The pain was unreal!! The entire story was featured on Ron Harris's The Daily Pump check it out here:

So you workout 3 days a week: Mon, Wed and Fri, regardless if it is a power or quasi Mike Mentzer week? I remember you playing around with the frequency of days back in day and you found that worked best for ya.

Let me get this right:
Power week = compound movements, x amount of sets (more than the usual 1 set I did with HIT) and then on the last set go to failure. For some of the movements there are two failure sets. Are these drop sets?

Intensity week = Don't worry about going to failure, just focus on form and contraction. However, add in static contractions, drop sets, all the bag of Menzter goodies, but the focus isn't necessarily failure, just intensity? Rather, more a drawn out intensity versus the shorter duration but more intense burst with Mentzer's failure principle?

I've been doing the Brazilian JJ for a couple years off and on. I'd probably be a blue belt if I went more regular. Takes many, many yeeassss to get a black belt. It goes from white to blue, purple, brown and then black, which can take as long as 10 years to reach black.

If it were 10 years ago, I'd probably do that MMA stuff. Now all I want to do is stay in shape and have fun. There's some young mang in our class, all ripped and cut, in incredible shape, who go to those things. Heck with that ish.

I have my 2nd degree test in May for HapKiDo. I think between now and then I'll focus on just getting my arse back in the gym on a regular basis, then after my test start this new regimang.

Wooowwww.... my mangster Mentzer trained mind is in shock. Lemme absorb this routine for a bit. I have literally been following the HIT principles for so many years that it is hard for me to comprehend donig so many sets or even more than 1 exercise per bodypart.

I'll have to figure out something for my back; perhaps only do a little at first. Last time I did barebell shrugs I barely could walk for a week (probably because I was bouncing too much and not standing still). Btw, because you are doing so many sets, VOLUME OWNS YOU, bahahaha

About that NLP routine, do you have anything already typed up? I'm going to have to modify it for my back (no squats or deads) or else I won't be walking.

Btw, I heard you slipped on a banana peel over by the juice bar, causing you to throw your after-workout fruity drink all over some fat chic who ended up stumbling backwards and sitting on some poor smucks face who was sitting on the flat bench, causing his jaw to explode under a fat heaping mess of human butter, dat true?
At 16:30 on February 20, 2009, FlexDago said…
I'm going to read over this NLP routine you posted.... I really got tired of the old HIT only routine I used to use. I believe it was only working one type of muscle fiber; atleast from the way I was using it (very low rep, hardly ever more than 4 reps on anything). I would see guys bigger than me lifting pansy weights, which left me thinking, WTF. I read some scientific ish that talked about the growth potential of the fast/slow twitch fibers and it mentioned that the lower reps will increase strength over time, but will not net as much muscle growth as well as using slightly higher reps like 6-8 or even as high as 12 - beyond 12 or 15 is more endurance. Probably depends on the muscle too, such as calves versus bis, etc.
At 15:42 on February 19, 2009, FlexDago said…
Btw, nice split, but when do you work traps, shoulder or back day? Do you lump every delt muscle into shoulder day? There seems to be quite a bit of overlap; i.e. - rear delt gets hit again on back day, front delt on chest day, etc
At 15:40 on February 19, 2009, FlexDago said…
You are from Ice-lip? You know how we people from the South pronouce that ish.
At 2:29 on February 19, 2009, FlexDago said…
Btw, you still doing a three way spilt: chest/arms, back and legs? It's been 10 years since you got me onto HIT. I still have that email.

By the way - I never knew where my quad tendons were until you injured yourself. Now I feel precisely where they are when I'm doing my sumo deads and I think of you every time. It doesn't make me go less heavy, it just makes me think of you ; )
